Painting in Today’s World

Thursdays, Oct 5-26  • Each of the four-week sessions will be introduced by short lectures
on the current history of painting. You will be encouraged to create work you would never
have dreamed of making. Through exchanging ideas and searching for meaning through
experimentation, you will be pushed beyond the borders of preconceived notions about
art, life, and the world we live in.

Instructor Spotlight

Francesco Gillia

Francesco originally began teaching at the Alliance in 2014. While Covid forced him
to step away from us for a while, we are thrilled that he returned to us last Spring!

When asked about his favorite classes to teach, Francesco says “Being a figurative
artist, my favorite classes to teach are life drawing and painting as they keep me
practicing foundation concepts.”   Of his students, he says “I have enjoyed having
senior students since moving to Florida, they are eager to learn and more importantly
I got to know well many of them through the years and talking to them in class I learn
life lessons.”

Welcome home, Francesco, we’re all so happy you’re here!

Moving Roots: Mariapia Malerba

In the Gallery October 6-28 Opening Reception: Oct 6, 5-7pm • This event is open
to the public. Come meet your neighbors and enjoy beverages and light refreshments
from Jayne Baker at this event!

The gallery will be completely wrapped from top to bottom in larger-than-life works of art,
transforming it in a portal of imagination, a silent participant, a tapestry of monochromatic
hues with fleeting touches of crimson, recounting the enchanting tale of “Moving Roots and
the Comic Adventure “. This exhibit beckons souls to embark, to delve within, to illuminate
the unknown, “Moving Roots ” invites us to explore, the depths of our being, leaving a trail
of questions, emotions, and insights.

Theatre Gallery Artist: Karen S Johnson relocated to sunny Cape Coral in 2019 to pursue
her lifelong dream of becoming a full-time artist. Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago,
IL, Karen has always been an artist at heart since childhood. She spent 30 years as a
professional hair stylist in Naperville, IL while always taking work shops from very talented
artists in both Illinois and Florida.

In the Member’s Gallery: David Hampton describes his work as an artistic effort to paint
his life experiences. Channeling Edvard Munch, he views his pieces as his soul’s diary, works
of self-confession that he hopes will help others realize that we are all human and therefore
never truly strangers.
