Dear John, Summer Schedule begins tomorrow – June 3rd, 2024.  

The FGCU Academy Summer Program Guide is complete and ready for you to view. It
will be available online only for summer. If you want a hard copy, we will print some at
our office (Naples Center) for you to pick up at your convenience.  

Naples Center is located at 704 Goodlette Frank Rd. N.  

Day Trip – Travel with us on June 11 to Little Havana. This is one of our most popular
trips. Don’t miss your chance to see, feel and eat your way through the cultural life
Little Havana has to offer.  

Bridge – Summer is a good time to learn this game. Chuck Valery is a very patient
instructor who loves the game and will take the time to make sure you know how
to play. He will prepare you to be able to play by the time the snowbirds return.
His exuberant passion shows as he shares his knowledge of the game with you.  

Summer Movies – We are offering four Sunday movies for the summer AND we have
added four movies on Tuesdays for the summer at Moorings Park Grande Lake. You
can join either session or just one session or view a single movie at your convenience.  

Online Only Classes – This summer we are offering some courses Online via Zoom
only.

Making Sense of and Choosing the Best Technology for You: Desktops,
Laptops, Smartphones, Tablets, Kindles, TVs, Printers & More  

June 4 | 10:30 – 12pm, Tuesday

This lecture will try to unravel the complex and often difficult world of personal tech-
nology devices and the myriad options that you can choose from. Should you purchase
a desktop, laptop or tablet? Windows vs. Mac? Android vs. Apple? What are the costs,
advantages and disadvantages of each option? What should I buy if I like to read or lis-
ten to music? TVs, Internet, Printers and more. Bring all your questions about personal
technology devices and together we will try to figure out what is best for you.

 
Understanding OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Other Artificial Intelligence Tools
 
June 5 | 10 – 11:30am, Wednesday

Anyone who has basic computer skills can use ChatGPT, an AI-powered conversation-
al tool, in various ways, to enhance their daily lives and access information. ChatGPT
claims users can benefit from the platform by 1) asking questions on any topic of inter-
est, 2) learning a language, 3) entertainment and companionship, 4) mental stimulation,
5) emotional support, 6) news and information, 7) creative writing, and 8) learning new
skills.

Participants will learn how to create a ChatGPT account and the basics of how to use
ChatGPT and other free AI platforms.

 
Contract Bridge for Beginners
(8-part series)
 

June 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23 10 – 12pm, Tuesdays

Naples Center   Students should bring $30 cash or a check payable directly to the
instructor on the first day of class for purchase of the BEGINNERS Student Work-
book and Guide which will be used each week for class. This course is intended
for total beginners who want to learn bridge. Modern Contract Bridge is an exciting
and challenging card game played by millions of people. Upon completion, you can
expect to have a firm foundation of Contract Bridge principles. The course is based
on a balanced mixture of lectures and hands-on practice playing. Each successive
session builds by introducing more complex subjects. The first half of each session
introduces various bridge concepts. The second half is spent playing actual hands
on these topics. Students get a set of fifty handouts illustrating topics discussed.
Learn this wonderful card game and have fun.

 
Bridge for Advanced Beginners/Intermediates
(6-part series)  

June 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25 10 – 12pm, Thursdays  

Naples Center   Students should bring $30 cash or a check payable directly to the
instructor on the first day of class for purchase of a Bridge Convention Workbook
and Guide. Only students who have taken “Contract Bridge for Beginners” or have
a minimum of several years playing experience should enroll in this course. The
course is intended for students who want to learn many Advanced Topics in Con-
tract Bridge and is composed of a series of lectures with many examples of each
topic discussed AND student playing of topic hands. A total of 12 advanced con-
ventions AND 10 guidance “rules” to aid player’s bidding are analyzed for use in
achieving the best contracts and scores.

Miami’s Little Havana Culinary, Artistic and Cultural Tour  

June 11 | 7:30am – 6pm Tuesday

Miami  

Join us as we explore the rich history and culinary delights of a vibrant neighborhood.
Little Havana was recently listed as an official “national treasure” of the United States
by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The neighborhood is well-known for
its many historical, political, culinary, and artistic contributions to our Miami culture.
Nestled in the heart of the city’s downtown area and only a short drive from Miami’s
famed South Beach, the neighborhood is full of interesting cultural landmarks which
we visit including a cigar factory, Domino Park, Cuban Memorial Blvd., the Tower
Theater, artist workshops and the Damas De Blanco Mural. Enjoy delicious cuisine
including empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, guayaba, croquetas, churros and more at
a diverse range of establishments; from 5-star gourmet to hole-in-the-wall ethnic eat-
eries. Departure information will be emailed 3 days prior to the trip. Itineraries are
subject to change.

Born in Gaza (Documentary, 2014, Not Rated, 54 mins)             
This documentary film focuses on the violence of the Israel-Palestine conflict and
its’ effects on the children of Gaza. The documentary follows the story of about
ten children who tell what their daily life is like after the horror of the war in Gaza
in the summer of 2014.

Soon after buying an expensive cello, Daigo learns that his orchestra is disbanding.
He moves back to his hometown with his wife, where he answers an ad for what
