Instructor Spotlight

Nancy Mayhew

Nancy started teaching at the Alliance for the Arts in the fall of 2022
after hurricane Ian, but has been teaching Qigong, Tai Chi and Mosaic
classes in 3 cities near my home in Wisconsin.

Qigong is her favorite fitness class to teach. She has been a personal trainer for
15 years and her specialty is working with seniors- teaching strength training,
Zumba Gold and eventually Qigong and Tai Chi. She was amazed at the change
in her students’ overall fitness level after taking her Qigong class! Over the years
she has heard her students describe their aches and pains and their concerns with
losing their balance, and after taking just a few of Qi gong classes they have seen
how much their strength and balance has improved. Her students tell her how
important it is to them that they stay independent, and she is so happy to help
them achieve that goal.

Her favorite mosaic class to teach is Mosaic Mania, because her students get to
pick a mosaic project that interests them. They might want to make a mosaic table,
a mirror, an address plaque, garden art, or a wall piece. Then I teach them how to
bring their work of art to life.

The Alliance is proud to welcome this multi-talented lady into our rotation of classes!

Coinciding with the onset of the holiday shopping season, this gallery show features artworks
of all mediums priced at $200 or less. All sales are “cash and carry,” meaning purchasers will
get to take the piece with them when they buy it, instead of waiting until the end of the exhibit.

exhibit in the gallery. All works must be for sale and priced $200 or under. Members can drop
off pieces on Nov. 27.

Theatre Gallery Artist: Martha Cantu

Martha Cantu is a portrait artist based in Immokalee, Florida. She is well-known for her work
on the new welcome sign of Immokalee, which features her painting “Field of Dreams.”

Member Gallery: The Students of Marilyn Hedlund

In Fine Arts Acrylics classes taught by Marilyn Hedlund on Monday and Wednesday mornings,
students are encouraged to loosen up and enjoy the painting process as much as possible. They
are taught the basic principles of seeing and making art as originally taught at The Alliance start-
ing in the 1990’s by artist Gail Bennett in his impressionist and abstract styles. However, students
of any style or experience will benefit from these classes as works are critiqued with the goal of
learning basic elements in art of form, composition, color, value, and size.
