March 2023   FGCU Academy FGCU Give Day 2023     Greetings, We are so excited to have you support FGCU Academy during FGCU Give Day this year! A big thank you to those who have already donated. FGCU Academy strives to bring you new and interesting lectures and topics. The only way we can continue to do so, is to ask for your support.   FGCU Academy is your premier lifelong learning center in SWFL. We continue to provide top notch lectures, day trips, series programs and so much more. With your support, we can make FGCU Academy even better. Your donations do make a difference. Reach out to others you know and ask them to support us as well.   We are halfway to our first goal. We need at least 12 people to make a donation and the donations need to total $1000 or more. If we meet this goal, we will receive a matching gift of $1000. $2000 may not sound like a lot, but it allows us to bring in a high level speaker to lecture.. (similar to our Salke Contemporary Art Series lecturers).   Please help us reach our goal by donating anytime before March 16th at 12pm.  #FGCUGiveDay. View our page giving page here.   FGCU Academy [email protected]   Please reach out to me for more information at the above email address. For assistance with registration-call our office (239) 434-4737, and we will be glad to assist you.

Father Richard Sanders – From Monk to Migrant Priest @ Naples Center or Online via Zoom- March 13 | 1:30 – 3 pm   Father Richard Sanders has been called a saint and “the soul of Immokalee.” This beloved priest died at age 47 while serving as the only priest in Immokalee in the early 1980s, at the height of immigration of farm workers who came to plant and harvest expanding agriculture in SWFL. Previously a Trappist Monk, he felt called from the silence of Mepkin Abbey to be of service to poor Black people and later, Hispanic farm workers. Join us as we learn about this remarkable man’s desire to make a difference in the world. Carlene narrates Father Sanders’ story with pictures and songs that describe the man and the people who loved him.

Yoga Nidra Meditation (2-part series) @ Naples Center or Online via Zoom- March 14 | 9 – 10 am   From the comfort and peace of your own home, calm and reset your body and mind through the practice of Yoga Nidra Meditation. We start with gentle stretches and breathing exercises to relax the body as we ease into a guided meditation. Yoga Nidra is the easiest form of meditation. It is an ancient sleep-based guided meditation, which is very relaxing. As a result, people feel refreshed and their energy is recharged. It’s equivalent to 3-4 hours of sleep. Very healing on many levels. Suggested props include a yoga mat and blanket or towel.
