Our featured gallery exhibition will fill you with Whimsy & Wonder while Theatre
Conspiracy plunges you into the secret world of gangster clowns in Clown Bar.  

This is month is for celebrating what you are thankful for as well as giving back.
November 28 is Giving Tuesday. Don’t forget about your favorite arts organization!  

There are only four Fridays before our highly anticipated Arts on Tap concert featuring JJ Grey &
Mofro and special guest Damon Fowler. Tickets are scarce, so don’t delay-There won’t be leftovers.          


November’s Featured Gallery Exhibit

 

Whimsy & Wonder: Doug MacGregor  

In the Gallery November 3-25 Opening Reception: November 3, 5-7pm
This event is open to the public. Come meet your neighbors and enjoy beverages and
light refreshments from Jayne Baker at this event!  

Doug MacGregor shares his world of Whimsy and Wonder at the Alliance for the Arts
in Fort Myers, November 3-25. With his pen, pencil and colorful brush, Doug will guide
you through his creative world as an artist, cartoonist, and storyteller.  

Whimsical wildlife from land, sea and air will capture your heart and imagination.
(Yes!…pigs, octopuses and sea cows do fly!) Take a ride down McGregor Blvd, stop at
a pedestrian walk to let giant geckos and sea turtles pass you by.  

Theatre Gallery Artist: Fort Myers Beach Art Association
This exhibit will feature work by twelve winners from the Fort Myers Beach Art Association’s
2022/23 season of exhibitions. Artists will include: Carol Baskin, Michele Barron Buelow,
Cheryl Fausel, Helen Kinkin, Sandi McCabe, Nancy Morgan, Julie Nusbaum, Patricia
Payzant, John Rizza, Star Sherwood, Kathy Summer and Kathy Taylor.  

In the Member’s Gallery:
Michelle McDonald and Paul David Michelle J. McDonald was born in Jamaica, but has lived
in the US since she was a child. She is a member of the Fort Myers Mural Society. She was
involved in the Downtown Fort Myers River Basin Project and has a tile on display at the First
Street Library.  

Paul David Adamick, commonly called ART MAN, is a retired elementary art teacher of 41 years.  
He has had four solo exhibitions at different galleries in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and Sanibel. He
is a mixed media artist combining clay, fused glass and bent wire.

Clown Bar by Adam Szymkowicz and Directed by Bill Taylor  

November 9-26 • Join us for this immersive experience as we transform the Alliance theatre
into the Clown Bar (an actual functioning bar!), plunging you into the dark and secret world
of these hilarious, yet frightening, gangster clowns.  

Happy’s brother Timmy is found dead. Now Happy must return to his former life as a clown
to ask a few questions. But will Happy be able to go home again without getting sucked into
the seedy clown underbelly of vice and violence?

JJ Grey & Mofro LIVE at Arts on Tap  

Friday, December 1 • Arts on Tap is the Alliance for the Arts’ premier craft beer and music
event. A must-attend event, Arts on Tap features a performance by Florida Native, JJ Grey &
Mofro.  

Born and bred in Florida, JJ Grey plays music that mixes raw rural blues with tough, swampy
Southern rock, generating a sound that has a loose, natural feel while maintaining a potent edge.
JJ Grey’s songs draw deep on his heritage as well as his clear-eyed perspective on the world
around him. You’ll feel amazing listening to JJ Grey and even better knowing that proceeds
from this event fund the Alliance’s programs, which ensure access to the arts
throughout the year.  

VIP tickets are SOLD OUT.  

General admission tickets include a wide selection of craft & domestic beer, food trucks and
open lawn seating. General admission tickets are $85 each.

F*ckup Nights Vol. 3  

Thursday, November 2
F*ckup Nights is a global movement (300+ cities, 90 countries) focusing on how failure
can transform into radical solutions that help people make better decisions and challenge
the status quo.  

You will hear three never-before-heard stories of professional fuckups to encourage
vulnerability, authenticity, and empathy among all those in attendance.   

Tickets are $25 and include the first beverage.

Members Only Photography Club  

November 2, 6:30-8:30 pm 
What a great time to be an Alliance Member! We are launching our new and exciting
Photography Club hosted by photographer and multifaceted artist Duncan Metts, and
this club is exclusive to Alliance members.   

Duncan will focus on fostering artistic growth and understanding amongst members
through a wide range of photography assignments and resulting image reviews. This
supportive and encouraging environment will allow participants to get to know them-
selves better and observe the natural world in a new and beautiful way.

ACMA Presents Patchouli with Special Guest Carlene Thissen

We’re bringing live music back to the Alliance for the Arts with our popular Americana
Community Music Association series! Singer-songwriter and guitarist Julie Patchouli and
master guitarist Bruce Hecksel, better known as “Patchouli,” kick off the season and bring
their magical music to the stage.

Wednesday Night Market  

Wednesday, November 8
Join us under the stars every second Wednesday of the month from 5 pm to 8 pm for our pop-up
Night Market. We feature a selection of art, live music, food trucks and beer and wine.  

There will be a free family art activity hosted by our own Youth Education Coordinator, Minna
Maillakakis.

Open Mic at Wednesday Night Market

Join us for Open Mic at the Night Market, celebrating local musicians. Enjoy live
performances in a vibrant atmosphere. Register online to participate. Basic sound
system provided. Limited to one song or 5 minutes per performer. Spread the word

Art-Tini Nights: Felted Landscape (21+)  

Friday, November 17, 6-9 pm 
Art-Tini Night was so popular this summer that we’re bringing it back for the fall!
Join the Alliance every 2nd Friday of the month as we get your creative juices flowing
with craft cocktails. Each class will feature a different art project and 3 tasty ‘Tinis per
participant.  

In November we’ll create felted landscapes. This class was so popular, we have to do it again!
This class is perfect for a Girls Night Out, a fun date night or a great way to wind down after
a busy week!  

All Supplies provided. This class open to those 21 and over only.

Bluegrass Concert featuring Frank Corso & Justin Mason and Blue Night  

Sunday, November 19, 3 pm 
Sundays are meant to be sensational! Each month we celebrate and enjoy old fiddle and banjo
tunes, alongside new country songs and close vocal harmonies on the Alliance’s outdoor stage.  

Bring your chairs & coolers and join fellow bluegrass music lovers on our GreenMarket Lawn
for great live music by bands from southwest Florida and beyond! Our popular Palmgrass
bluegrass concerts are always a toe-tapping good time.

“Oops, We’re a Troupe!” has been bringing laughs to SWFL with their short and long-
form musical improv since 2021. Their family-friendly comedy is in the style of the
television show “Whose Line is it Anyway.”  

Taking directions from you, the audience, no two shows are the same! Expect big laughs
and lots of audience participation.  

Starring Caitlynn Wilde, Adam Santa Fe, Julian Sundby, Lucy Sundby and Special Guest
Darryl Knapp.

Intro to Digital Art (16+)  

Thursday, November 30, 6:30-8:30 pm 
Learn how to create characters, creatures, and environments using the power of digital
editing tools like Photoshop and Procreate. We’ll go over the basics and tools of the types
of software; different techniques of creating art; and how to apply everything to your own
digital art.  

Whether you’re brand new to the world of digital art or wanting to dive back in, this
course is perfect for honing your skills towards a new medium of making art!

Registration Open Now for Our Winter Break Arts Camp  

January 4 & 5, 2024
Winter in Florida is ideal for people who love to be outside. Most days are mild & sunny and
perfect for enjoying the beaches. Manatees can be seen more often swimming in warmer inland
waters. Over 200 different species of birds can be viewed migrating in our area, and so much more!  

Come participate in the two-day mini art camp and learn from Florida naturalist guest speakers,
create theme focused art projects, play fun outdoor games and more.  

Campers in grades 1st – 6th will spend the day in various workshop rotations, have plenty of
outdoor break time, and get together for whole-group games with before and aftercare available.

Saturday, November 18
Make creativity part of your family routine the 3rd Saturday of each month during Family
ArtLab! Drop in for free, hands-on family fun from 10 a.m. to noon. Explore something
new every month like art making, gallery activities, games and more – all inspired by art-
works on view in the gallery, famous artists, national holidays and artistic traditions
around the world.  

All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Family ArtLabs are free and open
to the public, but a $10 suggested family donation keeps programming affordable and
accessible.

In Color Mural Exhibition  

This mural exhibition is all about color! Color is the most fundamental building
block of art and we invite artists to show off their skills in this hue-rrific display.  

Artists may submit digital art or high-quality scans or photographs of artwork
for this exhibition. Artwork should be horizontal. Selected pieces will be printed
on 4’x 8′ vinyl banners and displayed on the Alliance for the Arts campus for up
to six months. There will be no physical receiving for this exhibition, all artworks
will be reproduced on vinyl banners for display.  

Open to all artists working in the United States. Submit by November 18, 2023,
for consideration. If you are a member of the Alliance for the Arts, you may use
code Member10 for $10 off your entry fee. Alliance for the Arts memberships
are $55 and are good for one year.

 

Arts & Ends Holiday Sale and Craft Show  

Our annual Arts and Ends Holiday Sale returns December 2! Want to be involved? We are
taking vendor applications now. If you make art or handmade gifts of any kind and would
like to be involved in this exciting holiday event, submit your application now!  

This year’s Arts and Ends Holiday Sale is headed outdoors to our GreenMarket grounds!
Located on walkways surrounding the Alliance for the Arts building, artist’s tables will
be set up in the beautiful open air and sunshine. The sale will be held on December 2
from 1 pm. If you would like to be a part of the fun, submit an application by 5 pm on
November 5. You will be notified of your acceptance to sell by November 10.

 

38th Annual All Florida Exhibition

This annual show is the most anticipated of the year. As the name suggests, this
exhibition features pieces created by artists working in a wide variety of media
from all over the 65,000 square miles that make up Florida. The juried entries
come together for an award-winning and exciting exhibition representing today’s
contemporary Florida artists. The exhibition will be on display March 1–30, 2024.  
Open to all artists residing in Florida. Only original artwork will be accepted, no
giclee. An entry consists of 1 to 3 artworks. Non-refundable entry fee is $25.00
for one entry and $5 for each additional entry up to 3. Alliance for the Arts
members may use coupon code Member10 to receive $10 off the entry fee.

 

Small Works Off the Walls

Coinciding with the onset of the holiday shopping season, this gallery show features
artworks of all mediums priced at $200 or less. All sales are “cash and carry,” meaning
purchasers will get to take the piece with them when they buy it, instead of waiting until
the end of the exhibit.   If you are an Alliance member, consider submitting three (3)
original 2D or 3D artworks for exhibit in the gallery. All works must be for sale and
priced $200 or under.

 

Fringe Fort Myers 2024- Applications Open Now!  

May 30-June 2, 2024 
Fringe Fort Myers is an un-juried Festival via a lottery system. In order to be considered for
Fringe Fort Myers 2024 (May 30 – June 2, 2024), your application for the Lottery Drawing
must be submitted no later than Friday, December 8, 2023, at 5 pm EST. Lottery Drawing
will occur on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 6:30 pm   Fringe Fort Myers is dedicated to
supporting independent performers and artists while creating opportunities for diverse
communities to experience boundary-pushing theatre and live performances at affordable
rates.
