serving backpacks, school supplies and groceries to Lee County students

Note to Media: The Multicultural Centre of SWFL is once again hosting Lee County’s biggest back-to-school outreach event, the Big Backpack Event. Celebrating its 24th year, the event is taking place at the Fort Myers Skatium this Sunday, July 30 from 10-2. The Multicultural Centre will provide the first 2,000 students ages 5 to 12 with new backpacks and school supplies, as well as full grocery bags to the first 1,000 families, as families go through the carline for curbside pickup.

A DJ and fire trucks will be there on Sunday to make some noise and keep the families entertained while in the car line.

Prior to the event, on Saturday, July 29, from 2-6 p.m., the media is also welcome to attend “packing day.” Over 50 volunteers will be at the Skatium starting at 2 p.m. to stuff the 2,000 backpacks and 1,000 grocery bags for the Big Backpack Event. Plenty of photo and interview opportunities will be available to preview the Big Backpack Event.

Thank you to all of our friends in the media for your ongoing support in helping to share information about this outreach event with the entire SWFL community. There are so many in need and your help in reaching them is much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you all this weekend.
