Name: 38th Annual All Florida Juried Exhibition

Date: On Display March 1-30, Opening Reception: March 1, 5-7pm

Time: Gallery Hours

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: This annual show is the most anticipated of the year. As the name suggests, this exhibition features pieces created by artists working in a wide variety of media from all over the 65,000 square miles that make up Florida. The juried entries come together for an award-winning and exciting exhibition representing today’s contemporary Florida artists. The exhibition will be on display March 1 – 30, 2024.

Name: Outdoor Bluegrass Concert Featuring Penny Creek Band

Date: Sunday, March 3

Time: 3:00-5:00 pm

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: The Penny Creek Band is a contemporary bluegrass band formed in 2005 and based out of Melbourne, Florida. They are a unique group of musicians that produce heart-felt , hard driving bluegrass music with tons of variety that keeps their audiences on the edge of their seats. Tickets are $15 for Alliance members and $16 for non-members.

Name: Beginner Bonsai

Date:  Wednesday, March 6

Time: 6:00-9:00 pm

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: This interactive, hands-on workshop will introduce you to the ancient art of Bonsai- the Japanese art of growing and training miniature trees in containers, developed from the traditional Chinese art form of penjing. Students will have the opportunity to use the remaining two hours to prune, shape, and repot their tree into a more pleasing Bonsai container. Aftercare instructions and troubleshooting will wrap up the program.

Name: Expressive Palette Knife Two-Day Workshop

Date: Friday-Saturday, March 8 & 9

Time: 9:30 am – 4:00 pm

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: This 2 Day information-packed workshop is designed to give a good foundation for bold, direct palette knife painting. The workshop will accommodate 5 to 20 painters, beginners thru advanced). Participants can expect to produce at least one painting.

Name: Meet the Author-Stephen McGuire

Date: Friday, March 8

Time: 5:00-8:00 pm

Description:Stephen McGuire, retired Chief Judge, Federal Trade Commission, and now an author has published three political thrillers, Prior Restraint, Fractured Power and recently, Secret Deceit, is bringing his Washington insider’s perspective to the Fould’s Stage. This event is free for Alliance members, $10 for non-members.

Name: Wiring Your Bonsai

Date: Friday, March 8

Time: 6:00-9:00 pm,

Description: One of most important tools used in training and shaping bonsai, aluminum wire is used to carefully wrap, bend, and train the various branches and limbs on the tree. Bonsai expert, Michael Lane will teach you the appropriate approach, application, and positioning of the wire as well as the various ways in which it helps us shape the plant..

Name: ACMA Presents Songwriters in the Round featuring Charlie McCoy, Roy Schneider and Kim Mayfield

Date: Sunday, March 17

Time: 5:00-9:00 pm

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: The final ACMA concert of the season. Charlie McCoy. A mainstay in Music City since the ’60s, Charlie has played on dozens of hit records and worked with numerous music legends over his career. Americana duo Roy Schneider & Kim Mayfield  better known as Reckless Saints will be sharing the stage. Tickets are $15 for Alliance members and $16 for non-members.

Name: Wednesday Night Market

Date: Wednesday, March 13

Description: Every second Wednesday of the month from  5:00 pm-8:00 pm,AFTA presents a pop-up Night Market featuring a selection of fresh produce, art for sale, live music, art activities for kids, food trucks and beer and wine.

Name: Open Mic Night at Wednesday Night Market

Date: Wednesday, March 13

Time: 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: AFTA presents Open Mic at the Night Market, celebrating local musicians. Guests can enjoy live performances in a vibrant atmosphere. Performers can register online to participate. Basic sound system provided. Limited to one song or 5 minutes per performer.

Name: Fridays with Francesco 

Date: Friday, March 15

Time: 9:300 am – 3:00 pm

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: In this workshop students will study a sculpture by old master Michelangelo Buonarroti. We will use the subtractive technique, the paper is toned with a layer of charcoal first. Darks are then added and highlights are erased out. All lessons will include introduction, lesson overview, drawing demonstration and one on one assistance and feedback.

Name: FREE Family ArtLab

Description: Families can drop in for free, hands-on fun with art from 10 a.m. to noon. Kids can explore something new every month like art making, gallery activities, games and more – all inspired by artworks on view in the gallery, famous artists, national holidays and artistic traditions around the world.

Name: Spring Break Arts Retreat Camp  

Date: March 18-22

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: This camp offers a variety of activities for kids ages 7-11, our mornings will sparkle with art journaling and meditation for focus and revitalization. Children will unveil hidden talents in the afternoons with the rhythm of music and creative expression. Conveniently scheduled March 18-22, during spring break for Lee County Schools, we invite campers to explore the boundless realms of their imagination through self expression and self awareness.

Camp hours are 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Extended Care 8:00 – 8:45 am and 4:00 – 5:00 pm is available for $10 per child.

Name: Art House Cinema at AFTA: Battleground-A Film Screening

Date: Wednesday, March 20

Location: Alliance for the Arts

Description: Who are anti-abortion people? What are they driven by? What do they believe, how do they operate and what are their goals? ‘Battleground’ gets inside the anti-abortion movement as never seen before to answer these questions, with many surprises: they are women, young people, even Democrats.

 This screening is part of the Southern  Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. WGCU’s Tara Calligan will be hosting a Q & A session with the film’s producers following the screening.

Name: Are You Stuck? Workshop

Date: Friday, March 22

Time: 9:30 am-12:30 pm

Description: Students are instructed to bring in existing paintings that they feel stuck with, or want to improve, or start a new painting in mediums including: oil painting with brush, with palette knife, watercolor, pastel or acrylic. Jan Ellen Atkielski, fine artist and popular instructor will help them get “unstuck” or help them create new works in the above mediums.

Name: Mind, Body & Soul Mini Retreat

Description: Join us for an evening that celebrates the human body in all shapes and sizes.
