From Istanbul, magnificent “Empress of the World,” to ancient ruins, stunning landscapes, and the dramatic – and legendary – Turquoise Coast, Turkey engages and beguiles, offering us an unparalleled small group experience. You fly into Istanbul. You first day is on your own as you wait for all to arrive. Your first day with everyone begins with a walking tour and a short drive through Old City. You will meet for dinner as a group that night. The first it is time to leave Istanbul, you will travel through Gallipoli, Troy, Assos, Pergamum, Kusadasi, Ephesus, Fethiye. You will enjoy many ancient sites, museums, boat tours (yacht) along the coastline – bus tours and walking tours throughout. You will continue on to Antalya and Perge for more sight seeing. Once all have arrived, there will be a welcome dinner in Lisbon. Your first few days will encompass traveling Lisbon, Oporto and then moving to Santiago, Spain. You will visit Santiago de Compostela – the last stop on the pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago). You move along through Leon/Bilbao and the Basque Country stopping at some other areas along the pilgrimage route along the coast. It’s lively cities and ancient ruins, temples of man – and of nature, hospitable people and delectable cuisine … a feast for all the senses. You will begin your trip in Palermo, Italy where you will gather for dinner and discuss the trip ahead. You will visit many sites in Palermo and surrounding cities for the next few days before heading to Agrigento. After visiting Agrigento, you will experience a cooking lesson and dinner. Next you will move on to Syracuse to view ancient ruins and so much more. From Syracuse, you will travel up to Mt Etna and Taormina.
