Instructor Spotlight

Marilyn Hedlund

Marilyn Hedlund began teaching Fine Art Acrylics after the previous Instructor, Lucie
Macherowski, passed away in April 2016. Initially there were 3 students from Lucie’s
class who alternated teaching sessions for a few years; but now Marilyn is the one con-
tinuing what Lucie began in the early1990’s at the Alliance. Her favorite class to teach
is Acrylics Plein Air abstract landscapes class which was offered on Mondays. Now
Marilyn’s Fine Art Acrylics class has grown so much that she is offering it on both
Monday and Wednesday, in order to accommodate all of the students who love the
class. Fine Arts Acrylics classes follow the same basic instruction with a focus on
impressionistic style, but optional plein air is available on Mondays.

Marilyn says she has learned much from her students. ” I have learned flexibility,
patience, and adaptation to their various painting experiences and styles as I show
them how to loosen up and enjoy the painting process. Also, I have had to learn to
project my voice and to face the group as I critique their works and do painting
demos.”

Just like her devoted students, the Alliance is proud to know this talented
Instructor and Artist!
