YOU’RE INVITED!  - PLEASE SHARE!

The Marine Corps League will hold our annual ceremony commemorating the 78th Anniversary of the Flag Raising on Iwo Jima on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 11:30 AM. The ceremony will be held before the Iwo Jima Monument, situated in the Four Mile Cove Ecological Park in Cape Coral, FL (2500 SE 24th St.).

We will be honoring some of the last WWII Veterans, combat veterans from every generation since WWII, as well as Gold Star Families who will be recognized for the sacrifice of their sons. Gold Star Mother, Julia Cunningham, will present the Flag and lay the wreath on behalf of all those who died in service.  Her own son was LCpl James. B. Cunningham, who died on November 9, 1990 during Operation Desert Shield.

Our objective is to inform the community that the ceremony is open to public and designed to Honor ALL veterans from every branch of service.

Four WWII veterans will be in attendance to receive special recognition!  Considering their age, this will soon become a commemorative ceremony only.  We would invite everyone to come out and celebrate these heroes while we are able.

We have several participants including: Marine Corps League, Lee County Sheriff’s Office with Rifle Salute, Cape Coral Police Dept. with Honor Guard, and Guns n Hoses Pipes n Drums, as well as TAPS bugler, CWO4 Gary Marvel.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or on my cell at 239.896.3763.  Any assistance would be very much appreciated!

Sincerely,

Julie Sturgeon
