City of Fort Myers adopts new fiscal year budget with lower millage rate

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Sept. 18, 2024) – The new City of Fort Myers budget for fiscal year 2024-2025 (FY24-25), beginning on Oct. 1, 2024, has been adopted with a millage rate of 6.5255. This was reduced from this year’s rate of 6.6999 and is the 9^th consecutive year of millage rate reductions. 

With no public input at the Sept. 16 Final Public Hearing, the approved budget of $662,583,964 for FY24-25 strikes a balance between the revenues projected to be collected and expenditures to ensure continued delivery of essential City services while commencing a five-year capital improvement program (CIP) for fiscal years 2025-2029. The CIP is centered around City structures, infrastructure, parks and recreation, public safety, stormwater, technology and public utilities.

“After a series of Fort Myers City Council budget workshops and public input meetings, we’re excited to kick off the new fiscal year with a structurally balanced budget and strong reserves,” said Chris Tenney, Director of Financial Services for the City of Fort Myers. “We’re very pleased with the outcome which helps support the City’s mission, vision and strategic plan in both the short and long-term.”
