| Art in the Gardens Opens at Edison & Ford Winter Estates FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 3, 2018) — On April 8 from 2-4 p.m., Edison & Ford Winter Estates will host the opening reception for the 10th annual Art in the Gardens. The outdoor exhibit features handmade sculptures made by school children from a dozen Lee County schools. The sculptures are made from recycled materials and will be displayed in the gardens around the museum through May 6. Each year, teachers and Edison Ford staff develop a different theme. This year’s theme is “Star Spangled Gardens” so each sculpture will have a patriotic look and feel, incorporating stars, stripes and red, white and blue colors. The opening reception and exhibit are free (does not include tours of the homes, lab or museum). More than 250,000 visitors walk through the site each year from all around the globe. The organization has received many awards, including the National Stewardship Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the National Garden Clubs’ Historic Preservation Award. The site is an official project of “Save America’s Treasures,” a Florida Historic Landmark and a National Register Historic Site. The Edison Botanic Laboratory is a National Historic Chemical Landmark. The site is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and until 9 p.m. during the month of December. |
