Alliance for the Arts Presents August Wilson’s Radio Golf,
Directed by Sonya McCarter

Performances are October 19-21, 26-28 at 7:30pm and October 29 at 2pm

Theatre Conspiracy at Alliance for the Arts presents August Wilson’s Radio Golf October 19-21 and 26-28. Both moving and funny, Radio Golf is the culmination of August Wilson’s ten-play American Century Cycle chronicling each decade of African-American life in the 20th century.
The struggle between history and progress plays out in the performance starring local actors Mark Drew as Harmond Wilks, Tijuanna Clemons as Mame Wilks, Elvis Mortley as Roosevelt Hicks, Lemec Bernard as Sterling Johnson and Cicero McCarter as Elder Joseph Barlow. The show is directed by Sonya McCarter.
Radio Golf is set in Pittsburgh in the late 1990s and tells the story of a successful entrepreneur who aspires to become the city’s first Black mayor. But when the past begins to catch up with him, secrets get revealed that could be his undoing.
August Wilson is most known for his American Century Cycle, a collection of ten plays that span across decades to document African American experiences in the 20th century. The plays chronicle the effect of social and historical situations of each decade on individual characters. Radio Golf is chronologically the final installment of the collection. Theatre Conspiracy made the commitment to produce all ten of the American Century Cycle works; this production marks the sixth show produced to date.
Tickets are $27 for members, $32 for non-members and available at ArtInLee.org or by calling the box office at 239-939-2787. Performances are October 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30PM and October 29 at 2PM
