Atlantic snook to close in state and federal waters

Atlantic snook to close in state and federal waters
The recreational harvest of snook in Atlantic state and federal waters has a regular season closure that starts June 1.
Snook are one of the many reasons Florida is the Fishing Capital of the World. Seasonal harvest closures and anglers using proper handling methods when practicing catch-and-release help conserve Florida’s valuable snook populations and can ensure the species’ abundance for anglers today and generations to come. To learn more and see a video about catch-and-release fishing and the best way to handle a fish, visit MyFWC.com/Marine and click on “Recreational Regulations” and then “Fish Handling Tips.”
If you practice catch-and-release fishing during the closed season, you can still contribute to data collection by submitting your catch information for this and other species through the iAngler app. Learn more on the Angler Action Foundation’s website at AnglerActionFoundation.com.

FWC approves new Florida Saltwater Fishing Record for whiting/kingfish
William Joseph Peckham caught the Gulf kingfish (whiting) of a lifetime on April 18 while fishing off Pensacola Beach. His 2.4-pound catch beat out the previous Florida Saltwater Fishing Record of 2.19 pounds. “I’ve had so many exciting, memorable experiences fishing on Pensacola Beach,” said Peckham. “Catching this record-breaking whiting tops the list.”
Want to land the next state record? It’s simpler than you think. There are no records listed yet for white grunt, blueline tilefish and schoolmaster snapper conventional tackle categories, as well as many fly-fishing tackle categories, giving anglers an exciting opportunity to hold the record for these species.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) maintains state records in conventional tackle and fly-fishing categories for 81 species caught in Florida state waters and federal waters. Saltwater record holders receive a certificate of accomplishment, prize pack, recognition in various publications and a custom ink fish print to memorialize their catch courtesy of Fish Print Shop.
To qualify for a record, the catch must be weighed with a certified scale on land and photographs must be submitted clearly showing the weight displayed on the scale, the scale’s certification, the rod and reel used to make the catch, the angler with their catch, and various views of the fish for identification purposes. The angler’s signature on a completed application form must be witnessed by a notary.
For more information and to view current records, visit CatchaFloridaMemory.com and click “Records,” contact [email protected] or call 850-487-0554.
Florida Saltwater Fishing Records are part of FWC’s Catch a Florida Memory – Saltwater Angler Recognition program, which rewards anglers for their fishing efforts while encouraging them to target a diversity of species. CALL TO ACTION - Lake O Discharges

RAISE YOUR VOICE TO
MINIMIZE DAMAGING DISCHARGES FROM LAKE O
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers currently manages Lake Okeechobee water levels based on a flawed operating system (LORS 2008) that prioritizes the needs of special interests at the expense of all others. All too often, this leads to high-volume, damaging discharges to the coastal estuaries during the rainy season. The Corps is writing a new rulebook, the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM), but the proposed models still fail to represent all system components equally.
Click below to take action and urge the Corps to include a proactive water management strategy that distributes the water fairly among all users in order to reduce harm and benefit all stakeholders. Let them know that LOSOM absolutely must include a plan that balances the current system’s inequities.

Greetings!
We have great news! The SWFL Relief Fund in partnership with the United Way and the Southwest Florida Community Foundation has issued a challenge match toward our summer camp scholarship fund. For every dollar our community donates toward sending kids to summer arts camp this year, the SWFL Relief Fund will match up to $7,000!
You already know how impactful summer arts camp can be: it helps children find their squad, explore new frontiers and create memories that will last a lifetime. Our camps inspire the next generation of creative thinkers, helping to build a future of adults who think outside of the box, dream big and find creative solutions to problems.
Please consider making a contribution – of any amount – before May 31st and make a difference in a deserving child to camp this summer. If you’ve already given – thank you! Your gift has already been matched.

BASE OPERATIONS AT PAGE FIELD RANKED 16th BEST OVERALL AND 6th BEST INDEPENDENT FBO IN US
FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 17, 2021) – Base Operations at Page Field in Fort Myers has been named the 16th best overall fixed-base operator (FBO) and 6th best independent FBO in the U.S. in the 2021 Professional Pilot PRASE (Preferences Regarding Aviation Services and Equipment) Survey.
For the 2021 PRASE Survey, subscribers scored a total of 1,689 U.S. FBOs in the six categories of line team, customer service representatives (CSRs), facility, amenities, promptness & efficiency and value for price. A certain minimum number of respondents in all categories was the threshold for ranking in the Top U.S. FBOs.
“We are so pleased to have Base Operations at Page Field recognized as a top independent and overall U.S. FBO based on our customers’ feedback for exceptional aviation ground services,” said Ben Siegel, CPA, C.M., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority. “The Base Operations team is committed to delivering a great experience to our guests and I am proud of their commitment to excellence in customer care.”
Professional Pilot is a monthly business aviation trade magazine. The magazine’s 48th annual Professional Pilot PRASE Survey occurs each year and tabulates the customer opinions of aviation ground services. Executives in charge of flight departments, aviation managers, chief pilots, CEOs and other qualified subscribers are polled once a year in order to determine the PRASE Winner’s List. PRASE is the gold standard of aviation ground service leaders.
The Lee County Port Authority operates Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field in Fort Myers. Page Field provides services to corporate, commercial and private aviators through their business arm, Base Operations at Page Field, and accommodated more than 126,000 aircraft operations in 2020.
