FORT MYERS, FL. (July 25, 2019)— Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) Southwest Florida has an exciting lineup of events that will not only put a smile on your face, but a smile in your heart! Proceeds from all fundraising events directly benefit RMHC Southwest Florida, whose mission is to create, find and support programs that directly impact the health and well-being of children and their families in Southwest Florida.

FORT MYERS, FLA., August 13, 2019 – Physicians’ Primary Care of Southwest Florida has added two new family medicine physicians to its staff to meet the increased demand for primary health care needs in Lee County.
Dr. Karla Noel has joined Physicians’ Primary Care of Southwest Florida as a family medicine physician at the Fort Myers office at 7381 College Parkway.  Dr. Syed Sher also is a family medicine physician and will see patients at the Cape Coral Family Medicine office at 1255 Viscaya Parkway.
Dr. Noel has 19 years of experience as a family medicine physician and has worked with medical practices in Hawaii, Florida and Indiana.
Dr. Noel earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Indiana School of Medicine in Indianapolis, and her Bachelor of Science degree in history and biology at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
Her residency was completed at the Lehigh Valley Family Practice in Allentown, Penn., where she was chief resident.
She also has received recognition from the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient Centered Medical Home physician training. 
Dr. Noel is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Sher received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center and his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Houston in Texas.
He served his residency at Ocala Regional Medical Center in Florida.
He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association.

4th Annual Golf Tournament Supports The Heights Foundation’s Programs September 27 at Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club

(Fort Myers, Fla. – August 12, 2019) — The Heights Foundation fourth annual benefit golf tournament “Swing Fore The Kids” presented by Five County Insurance will take place on Friday, September 27 at Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers.  The proceeds of the event support The Heights Center’s programs that work to build strong, self-sufficient families in the Harlem Heights neighborhood of Fort Myers.  Last year’s tournament raised $26,500.  Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., there will be a boxed lunch, a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. and dinner, auction and awards at 6:00 p.m.  The presenting sponsor is Five County Insurance.
 
“The poverty rate for children in Harlem Heights is more than twice the county average,” said Jim Sanger, Chief Operating Officer of The Heights Foundation.  “This tournament will help support programs at The Heights Center including School Success and our enriching summer camp.”

The Heights Foundation works to build self-sufficient families in the Harlem Heights neighborhood.  The mission is to support education and wellness, promote family and community development, and provide the benefits of enrichment and the arts.  The Heights Center, supported by The Heights Foundation, is a place for Education, Opportunity, and Enrichment.   GLAD Kids is a child care and pre-k center serving more than 80 children birth-five.  The Harlem Heights Community Charter School currently serves kindergarten through fourth grade and will expand to serve up to fifth grade.
 
Harlem Heights was originally settled as a rural agricultural community.   Approximately 780 children live in a mixture of single-family homes and multi-family apartments. Demographically, the population is approximately 70% Hispanic, 20% African-American, and 8% Caucasian. The poverty rate for children in Harlem Heights is more than twice the county average, with family income 40% below the county average. Families are not able to easily access family support services located in downtown Fort Myers, and benefit greatly from programs located within the neighborhood.

FORT MYERS, FL (August 12, 2019) – Lee Association for Remarkable Citizens (LARC) is hosting the inaugural Exceptional Employers of Southwest Florida event on Thursday, September 12 from 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at The Southwest Florida Community Foundation’s Collaboratory, 2031 Jackson St, Fort Myers, 33901.   The event is free and open to the public.  Advance registration is requested.  The purpose of the event is to recognize exceptional employers in our community that have hired individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
 
The event will include a light breakfast, networking and a panel discussion with local business owners and executives discussing best practices for employing individuals with disabilities.  Panelists include Brian West, media and communications manager, Publix Super Markets, Pat Carroll, co-founder, Carroll Properties Investments and David Mulicka, owner, Honc Destruction.
 
“We are recognizing the unique talents that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities bring to the workplace,” said Angela Katz, LARC Development Director.  “They are capable and are some of the most dedicated and reliable employees any business could want.  We encourage companies that are currently employing people with different abilities to attend, as well as those who are interested in building a diverse workplace.”

(Aug. 8, 2019) – SWFL Children’s Charities, Inc. has introduced its 2019-2020 board of directors, led by Sandy Stilwell-Youngquist as president and Jason Stephens as vice president, in addition to Ray Higdon as vice president of marketing and public relations, Brooke Denson as secretary and Jeff Lagarce as treasurer.

SWFL Children’s Charities, Inc. board members are responsible for supporting the operations and mission of the nonprofit and administering funds that support local organizations committed to pediatric health care and education. Officers are also responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of the 2020 Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest, a signature fundraising event featuring world-class cuisine, renowned vintners and a spirited live auction.

Celebrating its 12th year, the 2020 Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest will take place Feb. 21-22, 2020. The two-day event will feature uniquely themed Chef Vintner Dinners on Friday, Feb. 21, held at private homes throughout Southwest Florida, followed by The Grand Tasting and Live Auction on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs. The majority of the auction proceeds from the event will be allocated to support pediatric health care services at Golisano Children’s Hospital, as well as pediatric health care educational programs at Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida SouthWestern State College.
