The Florida Premiere That Made Broadway History Did you know Jerry’s Girls has deep Florida roots? On February 28, 1984, the full-scale, all-star version of Jerry’s Girls premiered at the Royal Poinc- iana Playhouse in Palm Beach, featuring Broadway legends Carol Chann- ing, Andrea McArdle, and Leslie Uggams. With an all-female ensemble, the show brought Jerry Herman’s greatest hits to life, celebrating the leg- endary women who starred in Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and Mack and Mabel. But the most unforgettable moment happened before opening night— when Carol Channing, famous for never missing a performance, broke her arm in an offstage fall. Not one to let a little thing like a fracture stop her, she performed the show with her arm in a sling, proving once again that the show must go on!
