The SWFL premiere of “Grey House” opens Oct. 3rd at The Lab!

FORT MYERS, FL (Sept. 4, 2025) – The Laboratory Theater presents the southwest Florida premiere of Levi Holloway’s stunning psychological thriller Grey House October 3 – November 2.

When a young couple crashes their car during a blizzard on a remote mountain pass, they seek shelter in an isolated cabin. Inside, they are taken in by an enigmatic woman and the strange, unnervingly intelligent children she cares for. What starts as a fortunate rescue quickly descends into a night of psychological and supernatural terror. Trapped by the storm, the couple is forced to participate in unsettling games and listen to twisted stories that blur the line between reality and nightmare, forcing them to confront a terrifying truth that the cabin itself is eager to reveal.

Levi Holloway’s Grey House has been hailed by critics as a masterful and chilling entry into the genre of stage horror. Jesse Green of The New York Times called the play “a clever and creepy new horror play… it keeps you shivering.” Hailing its original Chicago production, Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune described it as “a genuinely terrifying play,” while Variety praised the tense thriller for being both “crafty and suspenseful.” Audiences at The Laboratory Theater of Florida will be left questioning what is real in this claustrophobic tale where every shadow holds a secret and survival means playing along.

Artistic Director Todd Lyman says, “Grey House is as thought-provoking as it is creepy. Every door locks behind you, pulling us deeper into a world where mystery and unease reign.”

Directed by Heather Johnson, this show features Madelaine Weymouth (Max), Justin Larsche (Henry), Lauren Miller (Raleigh), Roslyn Kellogg (Marlow), Anghela Chavez (Bernie), Lily Maggio (A1656), Magnolia Gallant (Squirrel), Diana Lund (The Boy), Lorelei Davis (The Girl), Abby Seeley (The Ancient), and Savannah McNamor (U/S The Ancient), with a set designed by Johnathan Johnson and costumes by Britanee Clark.

Director Heather Johnson says, “Grey. Such a bland color. It’s not white, not black. It’s a middle ground, a purgatory if you will, between absolutes. The term ‘grey area’ describes the ambiguous, the unknown, and the uncertain, all of which reside within the walls of Grey House in many forms.

Red. A color of passion, anger, and love. A color that refuses to be ignored. A color of absolution. The red string that ties us all together. Red is also a resident of Grey House in its many different guises.

Monsters. Monsters also come in many forms. They are not just the boogeyman under the bed, but they also live inside of us, be it guilt, fears, or unresolved trauma. How we see ourselves, and others, and the manner in which we navigate our lives, are influenced by these haunting, unseen boogeymen.

I hope your experience today leaves you rattled and curious. I hope it opens some doors, closes others, and makes you question your own living, breathing boogeymen.

Welcome to Grey House. We’ve been expecting you.”

“The show is a frightening exploration of the fears we take with us and the fears we leave behind.” – RueMorgue
