SWFL Students Bring Twisted Fairy Tale to Life on the Historic Arcade Stage

About the Show

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

“Don’t be fooled by the ‘Junior’ in the title of this conservatory production. That simply means the content is softened slightly to better suit younger audiences. We’ve taken a unique and fresh take on this fan-favorite story, have professional staging, and incredible performances by the thirty-seven local southwest Florida youth ages 9 – 18 who make up our cast.”

7 PM on Fridays, Sept 12 & 19 and Saturdays, Sept 13 & 20
2 PM on Sundays, Sept 14 & 21

Tickets: $30/adults and $15/students
Running Time: 2 hours (with a 15 minute intermission)

Shrek, The Musical, Jr. is directed by Monique Caldwell, with music direction by Rosalind Metcalf and choreography by Florida Rep’s Assistant Education Director Megan Leonard, (pictured). Florida Rep’s Director of Production Charles Clark designed the sets, Costume Shop Manager Amanda Miller designed costumes, with sound design by Braden Downing and lighting design by MK Doherty.
