What’s Blooming?

The Longan Tree
Dimocarpus longan, commonly known as the longan and dragon’s eye, is a tropical tree species that produces edible fruit. Longan is native to Southeast Asia, particularly southern China. It is one of the popular members of the Sapindaceae soapberry family, to which the lychee and rambutan also belong. Fresh longan fruit has a sweet, floral, taste and is high in vitamin C. They typically bloom during the late summer and early fall, with the peak season being July through September. This Longan tree is located along the pathway towards the fountain after entering the riverside of the Edison property.
