Feature Lectures From the Delta to the Internet: A History of American Popular Music May 8 | 10:30 – 12pm | Thursday The Carlisle of Naples Do you ever wonder how music evolved from Elvis to Beyoncé? This lecture will provide some insight into that process, starting not in the 1950s, but a century pri- or in the mid-1800s, and progressing through to the present day. We will examine how the music of the enslaved people of the Mississippi Delta formed the founda- tion of the music that started it all: the Blues. The dawn of the twentieth century also gave rise to the jazz. Together, these two styles (along with several others) would eventually form the basis of rock ’n’ roll and pop. Other genres included are rap and hip hop, disco, grunge, and EDM (electronic dance music). Technology Lectures iPhone/iPad Apps: Mastering Navigation and Travel with Apple Maps and Uber May 7 | 10 – 11:30am | Wednesday Moorings Park Original Campus Apple’s Maps app gives you everything you need to get where you’re going and find interesting places along the way. It can provide turn-by-turn voice navigation for driving, walking, cycling and public transit. Maps offers cyc- ling directions with bike lanes, paths, and roads; electric vehicle routing; and informative guides to numerous destinations. Maps can show you cities in 3D and can take you to the sky with Flyover. Uber offers you a safe, convenient for-hire car service around the world. Learn how to use the app to summon and schedule car service, choose the type of car you require, pay, and leave tips.
