FSW Holocaust Memorial Week 2025: “Liberation- 80th Anniversary”

March 10, 2025 – FORT MYERS, FLA. – Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) will host Dr. Talbot Spivak Holocaust Memorial Week, Monday, March 24- Thursday, March 27, at the FSW Lee Campus, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.

This year’s theme, “Liberation – 80th Anniversary,” commemorates the anniversary of the liberation of Nazi concentration camps and reflects on the resilience of survivors, the impact on subsequent generations, and the importance of remembrance in preventing future atrocities.

Throughout the week, FSW will host a series of events exploring camp liberation, Holocaust survival, generational impacts, and future warnings. The program will include powerful talks by Holocaust survivors, educational presentations by FSW faculty and Holocaust scholars, musical tributes, and interactive discussions connecting historical events to contemporary challenges.

A WWII-era boxcar on loan from the Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center of Naples will be on display at the FSW Lee Campus for the public to tour and view. This exhibit provides a powerful, immersive learning opportunity about the historical significance of Holocaust transports and the experiences of those affected. Viewings will be open to the public March 24- 28, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., in parking lot 8 outside of Buildings O and P.

A poignant “Field of Flags” display will visually represent the victims of the Holocaust with 1,100 flags placed in front of Building S, symbolizing the 11 million lives lost. This memorial serves as a stark reminder of the atrocities and the importance of remembrance and education.

Dr. Talbot Spivak Holocaust Memorial Week events are free and open to the public. For the full schedule, visit fsw.edu/holocaust.
