FORT MYERS, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2025) – The new City of Fort Myers budget for fiscal year 2025-2026 (FY25-26), beginning on Oct. 1, 2025, has been adopted with a millage rate of 6.5000. This was reduced from this year’s rate of 6.5255 and is the 10th consecutive year of millage rate reductions.
With no public input at the Sept. 15 Final Public Hearing, the approved budget of $894,114,537 for FY25-26 is a balance of revenues and expenditures prepared in accordance with Florida’s statutory Truth in Millage (TRIM) process and provides for the city’s provision of core services and Fort Myers City Council initiatives. A $910,926,485 five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget was adopted for fiscal years 2026-2030. The CIP is centered around City structures, infrastructure, parks and recreation, public safety, stormwater, technology and public utilities.
“After a series of City Council budget workshops and public input meetings, we’re thrilled to enter the new fiscal year with a fiscally responsible budget and healthy reserves,” said Chris Tenney, Director of Financial Services for the City of Fort Myers. “The budget framework underscores the City’s mission, vision and strategic plan in both the short and long-term without requiring additional tax dollars from residents.”
The City of Fort Myers encourages residents, visitors and community stakeholders to engage with the City’s financial activities, operations and progress across departments based on the community’s collective municipal initiatives and goals.
“Through the annual budget process, the goal is to take a planned and programmatic approach to allocating financial resources in the most responsive and efficient manner to meet the needs of our citizens,” said City of Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson. “Resident feedback is key to helping us shape Fort Myers into a city that remains safe, livable and full of opportunity.”
