June’s Featured Gallery Exhibit

Transcendental: David Acevedo

In the Gallery June 7-29 • Opening Reception: June 7, 5-7pm • David Acevedo seeks
to create a fantasy landscape where his memories and history can live in peace. He tries
to learn from himself with every brush stroke and allow his mind to wander the state of
subconsciousness that he falls into during the creative process. The color palette he uses
varies from time to time because of the ever-changing mind that dictates it. Never one to
follow recipes, Acevedo creates his own mixture of mediums until he feels content.

About David Acevedo: After moving to Southwest Florida in 2000, Acevedo establish-
ed a reputation as one of the primary artists in the community. He was awarded the title
of Visual Artist of the Year in 2009 and received the Gulfshore Life Magazine FACE
award in 2016 for his community work in diversity and inclusion. His first profession-
al artist studio opened in 2006, later transforming into a pioneering art gallery for artists
called DAAS. He co-founded the popular Fort Myers Art Walk in 2008 and served in the
core committee for the event until 2012. He is a former member of the Fort Myers Public
Arts Committee. From 2013 to 2020, Acevedo contributed as Arts Editor for TOTI Media
Inc., publishing numerous articles for their five local and international publications.
Acevedo’s work has been featured in many magazines, including Gulfshore Life, the Fort
Myers Magazine, Happenings Magazine, the Fort Myers News-Press, D’Latinos Magazine,
and others. He has exhibited in the United States, Spain, and China.

Theatre Gallery Artist: Just Kidding by David Hatchett

Artist David Hatchett passed away in April 2024 and this show is in honor of his beautiful
life and the art he created. David received an MFA from Rutgers University and lived in
lower Manhattan for more than 45 years. He created an entire world of sculptures, paintings,
songs, novels, all of them unbelievably original and extraordinary. David had a great vision
for inventing new ways to make art. His wicked sense of humor and enthusiasm about life
are embedded in his kind heart, goodness, and deep spirituality. He was the youngest artist
to have a one-man show at the Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, NY, and has been show-
ing his work, even after his passing. David Hatchett left behind a tangible legacy of how he
spent his time. He was driven, leaving behind a vast collection of his artworks.

Call to Artists

Metamorphosis: Member Exhibition

Apply by June 30 • We invite our current members to submit one work following
the theme “Metamorphosis” to be displayed in the main gallery during this month-
long group exhibition. As an artist and an Alliance member, this is your annual
opportunity to exhibit your work in our main gallery! No online submission pro-
cess, no jury notification – simply the opportunity to celebrate the artists that make
our artistic community so unique.

The theme “Metamorphosis” calls to mind concepts of transformation and change,
it can explore how people, nature, and society undergo metamorphoses over time.
Artists could interpret this theme through depictions of personal evolution, environ-
mental shifts, societal upheavals, or even the lifecycle of creatures undergoing meta-
morphosis, such as butterflies or frogs. It could evoke feelings of transition, adaptation,
and renewal, encouraging viewers to reflect on the cyclical nature of transformation
and the beauty found within the process of change.
