JANUARY 2023

FGCU Academy
Find out what’s happening at FGCU Academy below

Greetings, since it is football season here is a fun fact: The first college football game was played on November 6, 1869, between Rutgers and Princeton (then known as the College of New Jersey) in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Rutgers won.

The wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles was watched by 750 million people worldwide in 1981; sadly, 2.5 billion watched her funeral in 1997. You can learn more about Princess Diana’s death on February 15 when Jeffrey Steinberg presents his lecture at Moorings Park – Diana: Death of a Princess.
The first footprints on the moon will remain there for a million years. Ed Grace will be hosting a variety of lectures dealing with space and space history beginning February 8 at Naples Center presenting Apollo 17: Review of the Apollo Space Program. Ed has an extensive history with the Apollo programs and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon on April 17, 1970.

Just a fun fact:
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos were developed by a janitor at Frito-Lay, Richard Montanez, who got the idea after putting chili powder on some rejected Cheetos and then pitched it to the CEO. He’s now a successful executive and motivational speaker, and a movie is in the works about his life.
