FGCU Academy
How prepared for retirement are you?

Greetings, Retiring – Are you really prepared? Were you lucky enough to prepare properly for retirement? Let’s discuss some things we should all do.

Organize your money to work out what you’ll have to live on
• Leading up to retirement, gradually reduce your spending so the adjustment will be easier.

Wind Down Gently
• Cut back your hours – work part time for a year. This will help you adjust your workload and allow you to fill your time in other ways.

Prepare for ups and downs
• Feeling lonely when a partner passes is normal. It can also disrupt your financial plans.
• Stay positive and make adjustments. Be prepared in advance for the financial change.

Develop a Routine
• Waking and sleeping on a schedule helps maintain a sense of normalcy.
• Planning regular activities such as volunteering exercise and hobbies give you a purpose.

Exercise your mind
• Studies show that learning in later years can help you remain independent.
• Use your free time to continue to challenge yourself mentally, whether it’s learning an instrument or a language or getting a qualification

Join a 30-year career law enforcement and intelligence veteran as he examines Eli Cohen, one of the most successful spies of all time. This lecture also examines other Mossad operations (including Adolph Eichmann and U.S. spy Jonathan Pollard) and compares Mossad to other intelligence organizations. Join us for this fascinating and real-world look into the realm of international espionage.

VENONA – Soviet Spies in America
@ Brooks Commons Club – September 21 | 10 – 11:30 a.m.

During World War II and the Cold War Soviet spies and operatives infiltrated the White House, Treasury, State, DOJ, WAR, and DOD. They also penetrated our most guarded program the Manhattan Project. Fortunately, the U.S. Army had a top-secret counterintelligence project to decode Soviet Intelligence messages. Most of the cryptanalysts were women at Arlington Hall, VA. VENONA was instrumental in identifying American spies. Many were committed communists who were highly placed. We explore this program and its far-reaching impact.

Beyond Snapshots: Taking the Best Photos
@ Naples Center – September 26 | 10 – 12 p.m.

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do all of those other photographs look better than mine?” While it is easy to tell the difference between a snapshot and a real photograph, it is not always easy to pinpoint what qualities made your picture one or the other. This composition lecture will help you identify the attributes to turn your photos into works of art.
