LAB THEATER PRESENTS: “Crimes of the Heart” by Beth Henley

FORT MYERS, FL – December 15, 2017 – The Laboratory Theater of Florida presents “Crimes of the Heart,” by Beth Henley from January 5th – January 21st.

The tragicomedy tells the story of the three Magrath sisters, Meg, Babe, and Lenny, who reunite at Old Granddaddy’s home in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, after Babe shoots her abusive husband. The sisters were raised in a dysfunctional family with a penchant for ugly predicaments. Each has endured her share of hardship and misery. Past resentments bubble to the surface as the sisters are forced to deal with assorted relatives and past relationships while coping with Babe’s latest incident. Each sister is forced to face the consequences of the “crimes of the heart” she has committed.

The play won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play.

“Crimes of the Heart” runs from January 5th to January 21st at the Laboratory Theater of Florida. Performance dates are as follows:
January 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 at 8pm
January 14, 21 at 2 pm

Says director Paul Graffy, “in the troubling time in which we are living, it’s so refreshing to see a heartwarming story about family. This cast is bringing these characters fully to life.”  “It’s a perfect storm of three lovable sisters in extraordinary circumstances that will have audiences laughing through their tears, from the revelation of that poor shrunken ovary to shooing out a gossip-mongering neighbor with a broom,” adds artistic director Annette Trossbach.
