Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida to induct Jim and Laura Dixon and the Wynn family into 2014 Business Hall of Fame, Collier County

NAPLES, Fla. (June 24, 2014) – Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida will induct Jim and Laura Dixon of the Haynes Corporation and the Wynn family of the Wynn Companies into the 2014 Business of Hall of Fame, Collier County, at a dinner and awards ceremony on October 30 at the Waldorf Astoria Naples. Mutual of Omaha and Mutual of Omaha Bank are this year’s event title sponsors.
The prestigious award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who serve as role models for youth through their professional accomplishments and commitment to the community. The Dixons and the Wynn family will join a distinguished group of individuals who have been inducted into the Business Hall of Fame since it was founded in 1987. For more information including sponsorship opportunities and individual tickets, visit www.jaswfl.org.
Founded by Laura Dixon’s father, Laurance S. Haynes, in 1960 in Jackson, Michigan, the Haynes Corporation has grown from a manufacturer’s representative to a world-class original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of industrial fuel-injection systems and power precision component parts. In 1972, Laurance invited Jim and Laura to join the business, and Haynes Corporation acquired its first heavy diesel fuel injection product line. Haynes Corporation moved its headquarters to Naples, Florida in 1989 and today is one of a handful of companies manufacturing fuel injection systems to large railroad companies throughout the United States.
Under the Dixon’s leadership, Haynes Corporation has acquired numerous businesses and continues to expand its product lines, invest heavily in state-of-the-art machinery and add patents to the company’s portfolio.
Jim and Laura Dixon contribute generously in time and funds to the Naples Children and Education Foundation (NCEF), the foundation that organizes and runs the Naples Winter Wine Festival. Both Jim and Laura are trustees within the foundation, and Jim serves as chairman of the prestigious grant committee. Laura is a past member of the board of directors for Youth Haven. Jim and Laura donated the 1-800-HELP-NOW, which used to be Hayne’s Corporation’s 800#, to the American Red Cross. Though the couple works full-time, they regularly attend charity fundraisers throughout the year and contribute to organizations such as the Friends of Foster Children, Naples Botanical Garden, American Red Cross, Wounded Warriors, Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Auction Napa Valley, Hope for Haiti, Collier County Sheriff’s Youth Programs and American Cancer Society.
As Laurance Haynes did for Jim and Laura, the Dixons have given their two children the opportunity to grow the family business. Haynes Corporation will remain in the hands of the Dixon family for years to come.
Today, the Wynn Companies are one of the most respected corporate citizens in Southwest Florida. As one of the few family businesses in Southwest Florida to span four generations, the Wynn’s innovative business approach has allowed it to prosper despite competition in each of its business sectors.
In 1938, Peter Parley Wynn and his wife, Vida, opened the Bay Dock Hotel which included a small grocery store. Their son, Don Wynn, later founded Sunshine Foodway in 1948 (later known as Wynn’s Family Market) as well as Sunshine Ace Hardware in 1958 which has since grown to 270 employees and recently received the 2014 Business Ethics Award from the Uncommon Friends Foundation. In addition to Wynn’s Family Market and Sunshine Ace Hardware, the Wynn Companies includes Wynn Properties (founded in 1982), a full service commercial real estate, development and property leasing and management company; and Wynn’s Catering (founded in 1992). The current Wynn Family company board members are Larry Wynn, Thomas (TJ) Wynn, Jerry Wynn, Tim Wynn, Michael Wynn, Jeff Wynn and Katie Wynn.
