FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 23, 2020) — Florida Skin Center, has been awarded the Gold winner of The News-Press “Best of Southwest Florida” for their Cape Coral location once again. Through a special feature of The News-Press, readers and subscribers of the news publication are encouraged to vote for the best local businesses in specific categories. Florida Skin Center received the most votes in the category of dermatology.
Florida Skin Center is the 2018–2019 ASDS award winning Top Practice in the nation for free skin checks. The ASDS, in partnership with Neutrogena’s Choose Skin Health campaign, recognizes medical doctors and practices throughout the nation who perform the most skin screenings. As of June 20, 2020, the Florida Skin Center adult/pediatric dermatological facility is pacing to exceed the 2020 goal of 2,100 free skin checks to address and treat warts, molluscum, precancerous spots and more, as well as screen for cancer detection and prescribe needed medications. Board-certified medical providers conduct head-to-toe skin examinations once per year on anyone with an appointment, regardless of insurance, with savings up to $91. Any recommendation for a diagnostic procedure or treatment plan is provided in a written summary with estimated costs. A discount of 35% is offered to self-pay guests at the time of estimation. Reaching the annual goal of providing free skin checks will contribute nearly $100,000 of savings to the Southwest Florida community.
During the onset of shelter-in-place orders due to COVID-19, Florida Skin Center continued supporting the community via telemedicine and by waiving copays that totaled savings for guests of nearly $10,000.
“Our goals and efforts are set on the principle of serving others,” states founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Aurora Badia. “The more skin checks we can provide, the more lives saved from skin cancer. Early detection is a reactive response for those who have skin cancer or may not even realize it yet. However, educating and training the public to be aware of skin cancer risks and take sun-safety precautions is our way of proactively reducing the chances of skin cancer.”
Florida Skin Center’s four locations are open to serve guests with all essential and non-essential services. The practice is enforcing strict protocols for exceeding COVID-19 safety guidelines set forth by the government and health authorities. The company’s processes and protocols (which can be viewed at https://www.floridaskincenter.com/covid-19/) require all visitors and team members to wear masks, use proper hand washing and sanitation, and check temperatures upon arrival. Visitors may be asked to wait in their cars or outside before coming in for their appointment. If necessary, waiting areas are designed for social distancing with frequent sanitation of high-touch areas. A video explaining the company’s position and demonstration of their protocols can be viewed at the following link: https://youtu.be/g7b0YLN112s .
