Florida SBDC Network Announces New Cybersecurity Service

Byte-Size Program Provides Education, Resources to

Arm Small Businesses Against Cyberattacks

Florida SBDC Network Headquarters (Pensacola, Fla.) – The Florida Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, the state’s principal provider of business assistance, is pleased to announce a new cybersecurity service available to small businesses.

Cyberattacks against small businesses are on the rise. According to Symantec’s 2016 Internet Security Threat Report, 43 percent of all attacks worldwide were targeted at small businesses with less than 250 employees.

The Florida SBDC Network’s Byte-Size Small Business Cybersecurity Program provides small business owners with a sound understanding of the risks of cyberattacks, common cybersecurity threats, and strategies to safeguard their business.

Through the program, Florida SBDCs across the state will offer no-cost workshops covering four topics: basic cybersecurity threats, security, remediation, and cybersecurity resources.

A key takeaway and the foundation for these workshops is a new in-depth resource guide, which offers user-friendly information to help businesses become more cyber-secure.

In addition to training, Florida SBDC professionally certified business consultants will work one-on-one with business owners to help address their individual needs. They can also assist business owners through the development of a comprehensive cybersecurity plan.

“While no technology or program can stop every attack, taking basic precautions can significantly reduce the risk of a business falling victim,” said Michael Myhre, CEO of the Florida SBDC Network. “We are very proud to offer this new service to help small businesses protect their business, employees, customers, and profits.”

Established in 1976, the Florida SBDC Network is a statewide service network of more than 40 centers. State designated as Florida’s principal provider of business assistance, the Florida SBDC Network provides consulting, training, and information to existing and aspiring businesses.

The Florida SBDC Network recently partnered with Ridge Global, a globally-recognized risk management cybersecurity firm, to launch the program statewide.

In December, the Florida SBDC Network partnered with Florida International University, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to host the Florida Cybersecurity Conference, which brought together cybersecurity experts both locally and nationally from government, law enforcement, and the private sector to help businesses develop, evaluate, and strengthen their cybersecurity programs. To view pictures from the event, please click here.
