#BringBackTheBucket poised to break Guinness World Record

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (June 4, 2019) – Southwest Florida is coming together to break a world record for a good cause. Sponsors from all around the region are partnering with Cre8 Salon & Spa for #BringBackTheBucket, an official Guinness World Records attempt for the largest-ever ice bucket challenge. The one-of-a-kind event takes place Sunday, June 9 from noon-3 p.m. at the Cape Coral High School football field. Anyone interested in taking part can register at cre8salon.com/bucket-challenge.

Cre8 is going for the record in honor of longtime client Hilde Heard, who has an advanced stage of Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as ALS. Heard’s dream is to meet Ellen DeGeneres, whose unique platform would enable her to draw worldwide attention to the deadly disease. So, #BringBackTheBucket participants will spell out “E-L-L-E-N” on the field while drones and camera crews film the moment to catch the attention of DeGeneres.

“We’re so excited about breaking the record, making Hilde’s dream come true, and ultimately helping wipe out ALS,” Cre8 co-owner Marcy Sagorac said. “Come join us and be a part of history!”

The record for the greatest number of people taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge in one place at one time is 782, according to Guinness World Records. Organizers for this week’s event will have buckets for the first 800 people who need them, but everyone is encouraged to bring a bucket of their own.

The event is free with a suggested donation of $20 to The ALS Association Florida Chapter. Food trucks will be on site, including Gator John’s BBQ, Schnitzel Express, Pilar Empanadas, Zirilli’s Chilly Treats, Wild About Popcorn, King’s Tacos & Burritos, and Kona Ice. Bottled water will also be available.

ABC-7 anchor Jeff Butera will serve as the master of ceremonies, with music provided by Y100.

Sponsors and supporters include Sunshine Ace Hardware, Target, Got Ice Inc., the School District of Lee County, iHeartMedia, the Cape Coral Police Department, the Cape Coral Fire Department, iheartfilmstudios and CONRIC PR & Marketing.

Additional sponsorship and volunteer opportunities remain. Call Cre8 at 239-458-2704 to learn how to help.
