💵 The one type of high-margin recurring revenue that can drastically increase business valuation.

📊 The 2 essential marketing strategies required to avoid commoditization and retention.

💡 The one key question to ask customers that predicts likelihood of repeat purchases and referrals.

Those looking to have their documents shredded should drive up and remain in their vehicles for the safety of staff and participants. Event details are subject to change. Any changes to the event schedule will be posted on LMCU.org and LMCU’s social media pages.

For information on other Shred Day events, visit LMCU.org/Events.

Symphony at the MACC  Harmony in Sensation: A Sensory-Friendly Concert

APRIL 28 | 3:00 PM

Music & Arts Community Center

13411 Shire Ln, Fort Myers, FL 33912

The Gulf Coast Symphony fellows will present their first sensory-friendly concert for audience
members with autism and related disabilities. The reality is that the traditional concert-going
experience is inaccessible to many in our community. To improve the current culture of classical
music, the Gulf Coast Symphony welcomes people with sensory disabilities and their friends and
family to an innovative and friendly concert experience. Guests can expect:

A welcoming environment, modified to accommodate attendees. Everyone is encouraged to
experience music in the way they find most comfortable
Reduced stimuli in the form of dimmed lights and muted sounds
Flexible seating, entry, and exit
Headphones for individuals who are sound-sensitive (bringing your own is encouraged)
Fidgets, and a quiet/cool-down space available
Scarves, feather boas, and sensory/fidget toys

Sensory Friendly FAQs

What kind of music will we hear?
Most symphony concerts feature a specific era/style of music or major multi-movement such as
a symphony or concerto. This performance is designed around our audience. Each member of
our fellowship program has selected a work they hope you will enjoy!

Do I need to have autism or a related disability to attend?
No! This program intends to accommodate individuals with disabilities and their families, but the
broader community may attend. We only ask that all attendees be respectful of all audience members.
Some will have needs you may not anticipate, and that may make you uncomfortable. However, it is
our responsibility as a venue to accommodate everyone so we all can enjoy the experience.

How much does it cost?
Through the generosity of our donors, this concert is free, making it as accessible as possible. However,
to ensure a cap of 100 audience members, we are requiring ticket reservations.

About the Artists

Linda Benson is a seasoned artist here in Southwest Florida and has always surrounded herself with art. Benson worked for over 20 years as a professional creative artist, working on the mainland and the islands. As a retired commercial artist, she now channels her creative energies into teaching art. For the last 10 years she has been teaching all ages and levels in Punta Gorda, Naples, Cape Coral, Fort Myers and on Sanibel and Captiva.

Stacey Brown is a native Southwest Florida artist who works primarily in mixed media paintings and collage art on canvas and paper. Combining acrylic paint with ink, pencil, pen, marker, ephemera, painted papers, stamping and etchings, Brown creates many layers to help the viewer’s eye keep searching and discovering new aspects with each viewing.

Martha De la Cruz is an Afro-Taino artist who utilizes videos, installations and sculpture to investigate issues of coloniality, decolonization, identity, race, and power. Her practice is guided by her colonial wound and the desire to change the realities of the global south. She received her BFA in sculpture in 2020 from the University of South Florida and her MFA in 2023 from the University of Oxford.

Roland Ruocco conveys his perception of the world around him through artworks that involve diverse subject matter, artistic styles, and media. Sometimes, depending on his mood and inspiration, identifying problems and offering solutions, other times focusing on the beauty of nature, or perhaps industrial design.

Theatre Gallery Artist: Birds of Paradise from Paradise by Carolyn Gora

Carolyn Gora is a native Floridian who has lived in Fort Myers since 1977. She raised two wonderful and creative daughters, helped her late husband, Bruce, open an architectural firm, and taught art for a total of 30 years in local elementaries, middle and high schools, as well as University South Florida (USF), Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) and at the former Edison Community College (now FSW).

Carolyn’s artistic endeavors include designing jewelry and creating fused glass pieces.  Currently she works in many mediums including fiber and glass lamp work. Her latest venture is her Birds of Paradise from Paradise. Originally, the idea came from her birds of paradise that finally bloomed after being dormant for years. She created bird of paradise characters to illustrate clever sayings that mention birds, birds of paradise, or gardens.

All the plants in the paintings are plants found in Florida and are mostly from her garden. The vibrant hues exude a distinct Floridian charm. Her birds are painted in watercolors and tempera paint. Gora’s Birds in Paradise from Paradise collection is created to d bring a smile to the face of everyone who views it.

Members Gallery Artist: LAEA Art Educator Exhibition

HOT PICKS

True American Modern Art
April 18 | 11 – 12:30 pm Thursday
Brooks Enrichment Center

American painters, sculptors and architects of the 20th century
created innovative ideas that made the U.S. a force to be reckoned
with on the world art scene. Familiar names like Georgia O’Keeffe,
Frank Lloyd Wright, Alexander Calder, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol
all bring to mind distinctive visual styles. We examine works by nine-
teen artists, each original, each imaginative, but all distinctively American.

Religion, Power, Dynasty and the Crown –
The Civil Wars of France
April 18 | 1:30 – 3 pm Thursday
Cypress Cove

Ruling over a fractious state is a challenge at the best of times, but when
the “new religion” reached 16th century France, the combination of ambition,
greed and religion made for a lethal cocktail. The great noble families fought
for dominance over each other and the weak kings; the royal family, buffeted
by intrigue, plots and counterplots, struggled to hold onto their lives, let alone
their thrones. By 1589, the ruling house of Valois had collapsed and the
Bourbons reigned. This lecture explores the personalities, intrigue and
machinations of the French wars of religion, as well as the values and beliefs
that enabled moderation to prevail.

Google Docs and Google Drive
April 18 | 2 – 3 pm Thursday
Moorings Park Grande Lake

Explore Google Docs, the free word processing software from Google and
learn how to save your files to Google Drive. In addition to the formatting,
layout, templates and other features, you learn how to collaborate with
others using Google Docs and Google Drive.

Comanches – Lords of the Plains
April 19 | 10:30 – 12 pm
Friday Naples Center / Online via Zoom

For almost two centuries Comanches controlled a territory of over 250,000 square
miles centered in the Texas panhandle. They were the most powerful tribe in America,
and one of the most effective fighting forces in history. Often likened to the Spartans
of Ancient Greece, they defeated other tribes, settlers and armies. Originally a peaceful
tribe, they evolved into expert horsemen and skilled warriors. They were free a decade
after most Native tribes surrendered to U.S. dominance. Topics include: raids; massacres;
wars; captives; disease; leaders; US Army campaigns; Texas Rangers; and Code Talkers.

Operation Paperclip – Recruiting Nazi Scientists
April 19 | 2 – 3:30 pm Friday
The Arlington

As World War II waned, the Allies raced to recruit German scientists and technology.
This was a highly effective effort led by the OSS. Among the scientists brought to
America was Wernher von Braun, who developed the V-2. Topics include: secret U.S.
interrogation centers, history of Paperclip (and related operations), Peenemunde, the
Church Committee, declassified CIA research (Star Gate, MKULTRA) and related
British and Soviet operations. A detailed and fascinating examination of a major
intelligence operation.
