Gardening Class: Intro to Florida Gardening – Part II
January 25,  10 a.m. to Noon

 
Part II begins with the principles of Florida Friendly Gardening,
gardening for Florida butterflies, proper use of fertilizers for sub-
tropical trees and plants, irrigation tips, weed and invasive plant
recognition, and plant selection for the South Florida landscape.
This class includes a tour and continued discussions in our butter-
fly, Florida native, Moonlight and cycad gardens. The class is held
in the air-conditioned Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council
building (enter across from the Estates parking lot on Larchmont
Avenue). We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, a

hat and sunscreen, and bring drinking water. Advance registration

recommended but not required.

Rhythm on the River: Liz “Hunny” Heath
and her Five-Piece Jazz Band
January 31, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
 
Listen to jazz and dance the night away with Liz “Hunny” Heath
and her Five-Piece Jazz Band! Liz has been singing professional-
ly all across Florida since 2018 and has performed in the FSW
and FGCU jazz bands. Guests should bring a folding chair and a
jacket as this is an outdoor event. 

Tickets: $30 for members or $35 for non-members. A VIP seating
area may be reserved by the table for $275 (for up to five people);
table ticket price includes the use of a table and chairs. Click here

Annual Antique Car Show
February 1, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
Registration deadline is January 27 


Each year, classic car owners exhibit their cars on the Ford
estate lawn as a tribute to Henry Ford, the pioneer of the auto-
mobile industry. Along with the car show, there will be music
and food trucks and visitors can tour the site. The event is free
for members and $25 for non-members, which includes a self-
guided tour. 

For antique car owners wanting to participate, registration will
be accepted for Ford models 1980 and older. The fee is $30 per
car and $15 for an additional car. Click here to register your car. 


Spring Garden Festival 
February 8 and 9, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

 
Get ready for one of the most incredible local gardening events! 
Admission starts at 9 a.m. for BOTH members and non-mem-
bers. Nearly 100 garden vendors will have many types of plants
and trees, including palms, fruit trees, bromeliads, hibiscus, but-
terfly plants, African violets, orchids, air plants, herbs, succulents,
cacti and many hard-to-find species. The festival will also feature
food trucks and live music. The Garden Shoppe will be open and
have unusual tropical and Florida native plants that thrive in South-
west Florida. A limited number of carts will be available, so guests
are encouraged to bring a cart or wagon for transporting plants.
Parking and admission to the festival is free (tours and admission
to the riverside, museum or lab are not included).


Valentine’s Day Cocktail Chemistry Class
February 14, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.


Bring a friend or significant other and learn how to make cock-
tails and enjoy a beautiful view! Class includes: Welcome Cock-
tail, 2 Cocktails (made in the class taught by Nauti Beach), Pas-
sed Appetizers (from Personal Touch Catering), 2-Piece Box of
Chocolates from Norman Love Confections. Class will be held
along the river in our pavilion so there is also a chance to see a
spectacular sunset!

Registration required. Tickets may be purchased online, or you
may call and ask for the events or marketing department and
we’ll get you registered. Tickets per person are $90 for non-

Adult Programs 


“Love in Full Bloom” Floral Workshop 
February 1, 10 a.m. 

 
In this hands-on class, you will learn the art of floral arrangement and
discover the secrets to crafting a breathtaking bouquet in the shape
of a heart. All flowers and materials will be provided. No experience
is necessary. Advance registration is required. Click here to register

Acrylic Landscape Painting Class 
February 2, 9 a.m.

 
Local impressionistic artist, Marie Dyer, will cover the fundamentals of
composition and structure, creating mood, mixing paints, and will assist
in developing a pallet that speaks to you. All materials are included.

Garden Tour (Registration Required)
February 12,  10 a.m. to 11:30am
 

On this tour, experienced garden staff lead visitors through the 20-acre
site and highlight the different types of plants and their importance to
the Edison and Ford families. Visitors will see the Moonlight Garden,
many rare plants and get to go behind-the-scenes in the propagating
nursery. Some of the plants in the gardens are available for sale in the
on-site Garden Shoppe. The garden tour is offered the second Wednes-
day of the month, and tickets go on sale online the first of each month
for that month’s tour. Registration is limited – click here for online

Just for Kids 


Homeschool Classes at Edison Ford
Marvels -Golden Gate Bridge 
Grades 1-3: February 5 and 13, 10 a.m. 
Grades 4-6: February 6 and 12, 10 a.m. 
 

Students will embark on a journey to develop functional structures to
connect our growing world! In the “Build a Lego Bridge” activity, they
will construct a bridge using lego pieces. The class is designed to facili-
tate homeschool learning for grades 1-6. Click here to register online.

VIP Tour 


VIP Tour – Ybor City and St. Petersburg
February 15, 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 
This VIP tour includes: Ybor City Historic Walking Tour, Lunch
and Flamenco Show at Columbia Restaurant and Jungle Prada
History Tour and American Indian Mound.

Today Ybor City is known as Tampa’s National Historic Landmark
District. Join us on a stroll back in time with a local guide who will
talk about the history, architecture and ambience that make up this
unique community. Next, we will enjoy a private, catered lunch at
the Columbia Restaurant. Then the final stop of the day will take us
to St. Petersburg for the Jungle Prada History Tour and location of
the Narvaez-Tocobaga Indian Mound, a National Register of Histor-
ic Places. 

The cost of this tour is $150 for Edison Ford members and $165 for
non-members and includes transportation, snacks, tours and lunch.

Exhibits


New Exhibit: The Lure of Florida Fishing 
Now OPEN in the Edison Caretaker’s House 

 
The draw to fishing goes all the way back to the days of Edison, and
this is featured in our new “Lure of Florida Fishing” exhibit in part-
nership with the Museum of Florida History (Tallahassee, Florida).
Two of the Edison family’s recreational activities were boating and
fishing – and they enjoyed both on and along the Caloosahatchee
River and throughout Southwest Florida. The exhibit will run
through May 18. Included with admission.

Piano Performance
Wednesdays at 1 p.m. 
Edison Guest House
 
Timeless beauty resides where classical music is performed by Curatorial
Registrar, Chet, on Mina Edison’s 1932 George Steck piano in the guest
house. Included with admission.


Step into History Presentations 
Tuesdays and Thursdays
11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

 
Learn about subjects related to Edison and Ford with Site
Historians. This program is held in the 15,000-square-foot
museum. Included with admission.
   

Yoga  Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m.  

Class will be held in the River Pavilion (weather permitting). All
skill levels are welcome. This class is taught by Bonnie D’Angelo,
a certified yoga instructor. 
 
Edison Ford members: $15; non-members: $20 per class.
Tickets may be purchased online or at the ticket counter.
Bring a yoga mat, water, and towel. Admission to the site
is not included.
