Sultry, Witty, and Provocative Clever, Intoxicating, and a Little Risqué The politics of sex and power are explored in David Ives play, VENUS IN FUR The intoxicating, romantic, drama previews on April 15 in the intimate ArtStage Studio Theatre. The story takes place in an audition room where Thomas, the director and playwright of an adaptation of 19th century German erotica novel, sits frustrated after a long day of less than promising actress interviews. Just as he’s about to lock up, Vanda, an audacious actress sails in expecting to read for the role. Vanda will not take “no” for an answer, so Thomas gives her a chance. Much to his surprise, Vanda has a surprising understanding of the material, but as the reading continues, the lines between reality and pretend quickly become blurred. Actors David McElwee and Kathleen Simmonds take on the meaty roles of Thomas and Vanda.
