The focus of the Chamber for November is Leadership. Our 11 week Leadership program will come to a close at this month’s luncheon on November 17th.
The program is designed to strengthen leadership development of our members. We do this by encouraging their community involvement, broadening their knowledge and heightening their leadership skills. Our program is 11 weeks of structured, interactive programs and activities emphasizing local economic, education, government and volunteerism. I think my favorite part of our Leadership program is how each year the current participants help revise, build and facilitate the next year’s program, keeping it fresh and relevant.
Leadership. What a topic to write on. I realize that I could write a book on Leadership in our community. I am not just talking about those that have been elected or hired to lead but our “everyday” members that exhibit leadership skills because they are passionate.
I recently participated in the News-Press Market Watch Summit – Save our Water. It was amazing. The speakers were all experts in their field, representing local universities, non-for-profits and government agencies, all with a passion for water quality and our environment. Their goal: to break down all the pieces and educate us on how we reached our current water situation and review the resolutions. Though not everyone had the same path or timeline, I believe that anyone attending would now have enough information to either ask more questions or understand what they believe is the resolution.
The News-Press is certainly not the only entity leading the crusade on water quality. This event is one more step on a foundation built by our community and business leaders and their passion for our future.
The Chamber, as part of its new member advocacy initiative, will be setting up a landing page on our website and our first topic will be Water Quality. Our new landing page will be completed by 11/23. We will have information available, information we want to be balanced and based on science. This is for your education and review – take the time to read through it, it will be worth it.
