View this email in your browser   Dear Friends of Florida Rep,

On Wednesday, June 12, 2024 the state of Florida eliminated the entire budget for
Florida’s cultural and performing arts organizations. Every dollar of the 32 million
requested was cut from the Department of Arts and Culture budget. This sudden
turn is overwhelming, especially when the state’s own calculations report that “every
dollar invested in arts and culture produces 9 dollars of additional spending and future
tax revenue.” That investment of 32 million would have returned almost 3 billion
back into the economy.

In Lee County alone, the arts contributed $135.3 million in economic activity,
providing more than 2,500 jobs, and generating $23.4 million in state and local
tax revenue. In the 2022/23 season, Florida Repertory Theatre generated over
$5 million of those dollars which poured back into the local economy.

Florida Repertory Theatre qualified for 150k this year and was counting on this
money to help offset the cost of operating its professional theatre and celebrated
outreach and education programs. This crushing and unexpected shortfall will
alter the immediate future of Florida Rep and countless arts organizations state-
wide. Further, the elimination of these funds intensifies the already monumental
struggle Florida Rep and other local arts organizations have been experiencing
since the pandemic and Hurricane Ian.

Over these past 27 years, Florida Rep has become an essential part of downtown
Fort Myers and the entire Southwest Florida region. Within the historic walls of
our beautiful Arcade Theatre, many memories have been made, so much magic
has happened, so much laughter has been heard, so many tears have been shed.
We are telling great stories in beautiful settings that inspire young and old alike.
Our professional performances and renowned education programs touch the
hearts of all who live, work, and play here and we help the local economy thrive.

Now, all of that is in jeopardy. We implore you to listen to this brief message
and try to remember your own experiences at Florida Rep and why we are an
important part of your life.

An investment in Florida Repertory Theatre is an investment in our future and
the future of those who will come after us. Please help Florida Rep make up this
devastating financial loss. No donation is too large or too small. Thank you for
your consideration. Please donate here.
