DESCRIPTION: Screening of Breaking the News

AFTA has been selected to participate in the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers and has chosen a collection of films to screen in the Art House Cinema. The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers (a program of South Arts) works with a regional network of screening partners to connect independent documentary filmmakers with communities across the Southeast to present screenings and conversations around important stories and the art of filmmaking.

Breaking the News is the third film to be showcased. Breaking the News seeks to address the crucial question of who has been left out of mainstream media narratives and how to rectify this exclusion. With a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the startup endeavors to reshape the landscape of news reporting and foster a more representative and accurate reflection of our society.

WGCU’s Tara Calligan will be hosting a Q & A session with Heather Courtney, the director, producer and cinematographer of Breaking the News.

Please join us as a guest of AFTA for this timely film about the changing media landscape.
